~ disney cruise 2013 – sailing day ~

We sailed for an entire day before reaching our first destination. I found that sailing day could either really relaxing or really boring. I think some people even try to avoid cruises that have too many sailing days for various reason – becoming bored or perhaps thinking it’s a waste of money. A sailing day is exactly what it sounds like, when the ship is out at sea for the entire day, no port stops. Personally I found sailing day to be relaxing and gave us time to fully explore the ship. Sure, there were times for that on other days too but if you had a port adventure, chances are you’re probably too tired.

The famous Aquaduck! I hadn’t really planned to ride it but since the line was short my sister and I went for it! The ride is quite lengthy in terms of a water slide but only the beginning was thrilling, the rest was like a relaxing float through the tubes. You don’t actually slide through this, instead you ride in a float they provide you with.
The huge screen that they play movies and trivia games on from which you can watch whilst lounging on your pool chair! It was awesome, we managed to catch some of Peter Pan and then some trivia came on, the questions were (surprisingly) tough!
I loved these stamps framed in our room.
We went to watch Dash’s Diaper Baby Dash (or something like that) basically they raced crawling babies! It was so cute and adorable, a lot of people turned up too, also the MC did an awesome job hyping the up event.
Some very unhealthy but yummy deep fried goodness, just too easily available!
I won’t go too much into this but basically it’s a detective game you play on the ship, I personally think it’s fun for all ages =) My sister and I both started but never finished our game ><

My yummy coke! It’s crazy how little soft drinks I drink now compared to a year ago (or was it even longer than that>) when I had a crazy soda phase ><
It was Pirate Night that day! Disney cruises usually have one night designated to this pirate theme where there is a dance party on deck after dinner and fireworks as well. All guests are given these bandannas(?) Some people really got into the spirit of things and dressed up like crazy, it was great! If you’re trying to avoid the families and crowds this would be a great night to try the more exclusive restaurants (the ones that have extra charge).
Pirate Duffy
Pirate themed menus for the night, we were at Animators again which transformed to accommodate the pirate theme, the servers were also wearing pirate themed uniforms.
Argh!
Crab cake!
I usually chose this dessert which is a mini sample of the larger desserts. I believe there was a night where none of the desserts looked appetizing believe it or not! My brother also really liked their sundae’s and I think he got them more than twice.
These posts always make me miss my Disney Cruise, I hope I can go again soon ><

~ afternoon tea – neverland tea salon ~

Tea salons seem to be popping up left and right in this city! Which is awesome for anyone who enjoys afternoon tea like yours truly. My friend came across this fairly new tea salon when we were discussing where we should have afternoon tea next, this place won over the others because of it’s location (close to school) and perhaps because of the “newness”.
Neverland tea Salon is located in Kitsilano and easily accessible by car or public transit. Just look for their whimsical golden sign. The tea salon not only serves afternoon tea but lunch, dinner and brunch as well. We made reservations in advance and I’m glad we did because it was fairly busy when we went! The place is absolutely lovely so this might be my longest tea post yet! Check out my friends post here!
I really appreciate places that display their menus outside.
When we went inside we were greeted and brought to our table. The service was really good throughout our time there and I believe one of the co-owners also went to each table greeting the guests and asking how everything was.
At first glace I thought our selection of teas were quite small as I had expected a larger tea selection but after taking a closer look (or sniffs!) there were some really interesting blends! You have your usual, earl grey and  darjeeling but then you also have some fruity blends that smelled like candy! While I usually don’t stray too far from Earl Grey, I couldn’t resist getting the Jasmine Blueberry, it smelled like a Jolly Rancher! They both tasted very nice too.
Peter Pan – An awfully big adventure with a blend of elite Japanese teas: sencha, bancha, genmai cha, kukicha, gyokuru, strawberry bits and red currents.
Jasmine Blueberry- A white tip green tea infused with the sweetness of delicate jasmine petals and succulent organic blueberries.

You can tell there was a lot of thought put into this place because despite its small size, the decor was really well done. From gorgeous chandelier to the charming wall quote, everything worked well together but I must admit….the wall clock seemed a bit out of place.
I thought that couch/sofa was lovely, too bad we didn’t sit there.
My friend and I were so excited when the food came we just dove in and didn’t even unfold our napkins! Oopsies~

~ Our tier ~
~ finger sandwiches ~
There was the usual cucumber, brie croissant, egg salad, and a crab salad but I thought the mushroom one was most unique. It was unexpected and had a lot of flavors.
The savories were well balanced and very tasty. I also recently started to have this habit where I would save one or two sandwiches and eat them after I finished all my sweets. I found that after eating all the sweets I really crave for something salty!
The scones and devonshire cream were really good. I ate the entire scone and I loved the sugar on top of it. It gave it that extra something, I think all plain scones should have this =P

Flourless chocolate cake, passion fruit chocolate tart, tiramisu cupcake and mocha eclairs.

Everything here was perfect. The icing on the cupcake was very light and complimented the cake portion perfectly. The passion fruit was really flavorful, I thought it was absolutely delicious! My friend found it a bit overpowering, so I got to eat her piece! =D

The bill comes in a gravy boat? haha The bill also came with small sugar cookies as treats to take home, a really nice gesture! (the cookies were delicious btw)

The pastry counter you see right when you walk in was full of yummy baked goods!
The antique desk where guests could add their hearts content to their take out drinks, this is such a creative way to use the desk!
I have high hopes for Neverland Tea Salon, the food was good, the staff were friendly and the place was absolutely gorgeous. Since it’s so close to school I’ll probably be back for afternoon tea again or perhaps for lunch or dinner. I do hope they have a holiday menu!

~ disney cruise 2013 – embarkation & stateroom ~

Finally getting around to posting about my Disney cruise that I took around May =)
Embarkation day went pretty smoothly. We signed up to take the Disney bus from our resort to the port so we only had to leave our luggage near our doors at 8 am. Then we met up with the cruise coordinators, signed in and waited to board our bus. Between the times we had breakfast and just waited in the lounge area.
This was the first time any of us had ever been on a cruise. The cruise was for five days, four nights and would stop at Nassau as well as Castaway Cay, Disney’s own private island! We booked a stateroom with a veranda which I highly suggest as the view is gorgeous and there is a high chance you might spend more time in your room than imagined.
At the Disney terminal at Port Canaveral.

Our stateroom! Originally we had gotten an inside stateroom which meant no window at all but luckily I decided to upgrade us to a veranda and I’m so glad I did! I did this before we even left for our trip but some people have been known to get great upgrade rates right before boarding. So if you want to have a chance at those be sure to get to the port as early as possible!

The bed was super comfy! The room was a decent size and we had three large suitcases in total. Luckily the bed is quite high off the ground so my sister and I both put our suitcases underneath the bed and pulled them out when we needed them.

The soda turned over into a sofa bed and the small table also oped up so you could place some stuff inside. Just be sure to take them back out!

Our veranda had two chairs and a small table, my sister also liked to put her swimsuits out here to dry lol
A table and mirror with shelving and a tv across the sofa.

On the small table provided there were important information laid out for us such as our navigators which would tell us the activities schedule throughout the day, their location, dining hours etc. The book also had the room service menu. Pen, paper and post cards were also provided.

They also have these wave phones. Since there is no internet on-board (unless you buy it) these phones will help keep your party members connected to each other. They are fairly simple to use but don’t lose them as they are expensive!
Your dining tickets tell you your table number as well as the rotation you will be in. Basically there are three main dining rooms with different themes/types of food. You will already be given a set dining time, which you can choose at the time you book your cruise, so all you need to do is show up at your time at the restaurant of the night. Though on paper it seems like we went to Animators twice, the second one was actually Pirate night of which the restaurant becomes pirate themed and the menu was also different. Of course for longer cruises you will probably have repeated dining. When you get to the restaurant all you need to do is tell them your table number and someone will show you to it. Your servers are the same for the entire cruise, this is to personalize the dining experience further. This would be great if you get a good server but if not you’ll find going to dinner a bit dreadful.
Also unless you are travelling with a large party you will probably be seated with other people on the cruise. I actually wasn’t too fond of this so I called ahead and put in a request for a private/separate table and lucky for me we got our own table =)

The lamps by the bedside.

The powder room.

The bathroom. There were always lots of towels which was very nice.

The shower handle had a cord and thus extendable. Also that round metal thing at the top of the shower? You can pull a laundry line out of there and it hooks onto the other side, this way you can dry your wet items overnight! Very useful!

H2O products again and this time we had lotion and facial soaps right way! Loved it!

I think these towels were available for purchase on the boat but to be honest they were super heavy.

We soon discovered that we actually get room cleaning twice a day, I guess the second one is called “turning down the bed?” Once in the afternoon and once more in the evening. I’m not sure if other cruises are like this but our room was always neat! In fact it was really embarrassing for me since I had a lot of clothes laid out on the bed one night and our sweet hostess actually folded every piece and put them neatly aside ><
She also let down the upper bunk! When she came to greet us we told her we didn’t need it and wanted to save her the hassle of opening it.

After dinner and your second room keeping the hostess will leave the next days navigator in your room along with some chocolates! The sleepy dwarf for bed time! (chocolates before bed?)

The view when we looked down our veranda, luckily no one was above us top of us.

Looking from the left, the view from the veranda was always amazing!

We were in awe of the ship and loved it instantly!

~ october iphone photos 2013 & october photo challenge ~

Finally uploading my October iphone photos! I’m *hoping* November will be the calm before the storm aka December!
Painted my nails according to my mood at the time -gloomy!
My friend also painted her nails almost exactly the same except she did a gradient for her accent nail, great minds think alike!

The most adorable Halloween card!

On the way to Cali!

The bus! I’m glad it was painted/Disney themed on the outside, I think it creates a great mood for vacation.

I was trying to capture a really pretty sunset.

Had the biggest craving for Greek food. The portion was huge! I only ate about 1/4 and packed the rest up for my brother lol
More nachos! At Boston Pizza this time, pretty good!

Blenz was having pink cups in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month!!! I got their hot chocolate – a mix of 3 milks and 2 whites.

Dunno why this photo won’t rotate properly but Soda got these in his BarkBox this month, they’re adorable!

Something I saw in the neighborhood, I really like it when folks get into the holidays with outdoor decorations.

Took the long trek to West Van for some french food at Cafe Regalade~

The Halloween chocolates at Godiva this year, personally I prefer last years more. It feels like they just skimped this year on the creativity.

You can see more Halloween themed chocolates on the left, they look like something kids in elementary would make, which isn’t bad but I expected something more sophisticated from Godiva.

I was excited the get the ghost chocolate as I had recalled it to be pretty good from last year but I was disappointed and the pumpkin cheese cake chocolate didn’t help either =( Hopefully their Christmas chocolates are better!

H A P P Y       H A L L O W E E N

The third and last segment of my Disney Halloween trip!

Space Mountain is transformed into Ghost Galaxy during Halloween!

The Starbucks cups at Disney were so adorable! I brought one home but the hot-drink cup.

Main Street was really decked out for the holidays.

Chicken wings at McDonald had me reminiscing my trips to Hong Kong

Though I have no idea how authentic these kinetoscopes are I had a blast viewing them! It only costed a penny. It was thrilling as I had briefly learned about them in class.

Saw some Taffy, which my sister loves!

I really liked the organ display and the time piece display on the right.

I wish I bought this print now but I really have no where to put it.

A few people convinced us that In-n-Out burgers were the best, so we took a taxi ride to get some, I personally wasn’t wowed and I think it was a waste of a taxi ride….

Disney Halloween was great! I hope to visit for more occasions. I had to work hard as my midterms were mostly after this trip but it was all worth it. Now time to write papers and get ready for Christmas!
